Fresh Bold and So Def 2025
Thank you Martha Diaz and team for inviting us to participate in the Fresh Bold So Def Trailblazer festival at the Atrium in Lincoln Center. Full Circle was there last year to dance and this year we got a chance to feature the documentary. Thank you Melissa Ulto for being there through the years and also that night and Sunday for the panel discussion in Harlem. Rokafella (pictured above) shared her journey as a Bgirl that led to producing a documentary. She gained so much knowledge shooting, working in collaboration during the post production phase and then finding distribution with Third World Newsreel.
Panelists for the Maysles Documentary screening included Peaches, Aruna, Kwikstep and Rokafella and there was a food station by Bgirl Nfini-T and an exhibition of photos from Coi Sojer and J Boogie (pictured below with Martha Cooper).. so it was a coming together of visual and dance artists as part of the final day of the FBSD Trail blazer festival. It was so heartwarming to see Martha Cooper in the house too.. because she is the spark for the film since she published the We B Girlz photo book back in 2006! Shout to the B girls in the audience Mantis, Tara, Patricia among others and to our peoples Michele Mendez and big hugs go out to Black Robb who has been a true support for so many years! Plus we were finally able to get the sound balanced for the film thanks to the Mellon Foundation and to Juan Lopez!
It really does take a village… we have an amazing village! It was great to see Toofly ( pictured below with Yvey Hidalgo) at the Lincoln Center Atrium. Toofly designed our logo! Please stay tuned for the next screening in Jersey City which is in the plans right now. We do plan to catch up with Lady Champ in Chicago in August for her annual Battle for the Eagle — this time in Humboldt Park. Meantime, keep supporting your local B girls and B boys. Full Circle, 360 Flow Studio, Bgirl Herstory and CUDA Culture will participate in the Dance Parade NYC on May 17th and perform at Thompkins Square Park and then on May 30th Full Circle Souljahs will participate in the Casita Maria Block party in the Bronx.
